Salzburg International Airport with its national and international schedule
and charter flight connections, is only a 40 minute transfer to the ski resorts
of the Amadé Ski Alliance by car so you’ll get to spend more time on the
slopes.
There are transfer buses to Radstadt, a taxi line as you exit the airport building or we can arrange to have you collected. Alternatively there are the normal car rental companies with desks at the airport where you can hire your own transport. By car, you can reach Altenmarkt and Radstadt via the Tauernautobahn (A10) from Salzburg (direction Villach & Graz). Exit 63 signposted to Radstadt, Altenmarkt and Schladming and follow the signs for Altenmarkt, Radstadt and Obertauern and stay on the 99 until you reach Radstadt. The road forks as you are nearing Radstadt, Take the left hand fork signposted to Obertauern. Do not turn off into Radstadt village, continue straight on until you reach the roundabout just passed the Billa supermarket which will be on your right. Take the second exit which is straight ahead from the roundabout and on on your left there is a large Intersport shop and the shopping mall, once past the mall we are the first turning on the right, (Taxerweg). It is signposted towards the golf course and also has the free ski bus stop on the corner. You will pass the Taxerhof hotel, the next hotel is the Sonnegg hotel. Turn left into the Sonnegg hotel car park, (we are at the back of the hotel). Please take the small drive on the left to drive up to the apartments. (Note: Snow tires and/or chains may be required in winter, when sudden storms can dump heavy snow on roads but mainly the roads are kept clear.)
There are many cheap flights on offer from the UK to
Salzburg airport offered by the following airlines:
Ryanair from London Stansted, Liverpool, East Midlands, Bristol and
Dublin
British Airways from London Gatwick and Manchester
Flybe from Southampton Exeter and Birmingham
Jet2com from Leeds Bradford
Thomsonfly from London Gatwick, Coventry, Manchester and Bournemouth
SkyEurope from Manchester
There are often cheaper flights from the UK to Munich at peak holiday periods offered by Easyjet , where you can either hire a car or take the train to Radstadt. Flights also operate from the UK to Austria's other international airports at Graz, Klagenfurt and Innsbruck, the transfer time from these airports is approximately 2,5 hours, which means a longer transfer time but again there are sometimes bargains to be had. For a nice start to a summer holiday why not combine a city and mountainside adventure by flying to Salzburg or Vienna and taking in the city sights before driving to the mountains and Radstadt. Vienna is approximately 3 hours by car).
If you are driving out from the UK head you will be coming from the north via
Munich - Salzburg and continue via Tauernautobahn (A10). The drive from
Munich to the Amadé Ski Alliance takes approx. 2.5 hours and from Salzburg 40
minutes.
All regions of the Ski Alliance are also easily accessible by rail on the
Western Line and the Tauern Line. Journey from Salzburg approx. 2 hours, Munich approx. 3 hours and from
Vienna approx. 4 hours.
Travel from resort to resort:
Once you have reached the Amadé Ski Alliance, it is easy to discover the huge
choice of pistes and lifts that are provided. The five regions within the Amadé
Ski Alliance are so close to each other and it is so easy and fast to travel
from one to another by car or by taxi-shuttle. Free ski buses also travel between
some of the regions and within all the regions. It is generally a matter of only 15 - 25 minutes' drive to
get from one region to another. Even if you wanted to travel from one end of the
Ski Alliance to the most distant point at the other end, this is possible in
just over an hour by car.
But just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, you can‘t ski Amadé in a week, a month,
or even a season. Yet as you make your way back down the A10 motorway to
Salzburg and the flight home, you might well be planning a return visit: to try
to finish the impossible mission.
